Get Involved with Chapter Service Projects
Welcome Booth
The Welcome Booth provides information to visiting fans at Beaver Stadium during the football season. Game day buttons are distributed, which serve as a source of revenue for the Chapter's contributions to the Blue Band Drum Major and the Blue Sapphire uniforms, as well as the emergency grant fund, scholarship, and other charitable causes. For more information, contact Don Miller. Volunteers enjoy unwanted Mellon/Citizens Bank buttons—including older ones—so dig through your closets, and contact Don if you'd like to donate your old buttons to the Welcome Booth.
Student Involvement
The Board of Directors recently voted to financially support two Penn State student organization—the Penn State Crew Team and the Penn State Rugby team. Each team will receive $500. In the past, the Chapter has donated to the Penn State Dance Team, the Penn State Blue Band Building Campaign, and the Penn State Trombone Choir. The Chapter also supplies uniforms for the Blue Band Drum Major and the Blue Sapphire (feature twirler) each year, as neccessary, with an annual maximum contribution of $1000. Contact David Miller for more information.
Evan Pugh Gravesite
The Board of Directors voted to volunteer to care for the gravesite of former Penn State president, Evan Pugh, in Bellefonte's Union Cemetary.
Hintz Center Staffing
The Penn State Alumni Association has formed a corps of local volunteers to staff the visitor areas of the Hintz Family Alumni Center. Volunteer staff usually commit to a two-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday. The days and hours may vary during football weekends and campus events. Some Chapter members who volunteered during the 2004 Arts Festival had fun meeting and greeting returning alumni and even rekindled acquaintances from 48 years ago! If you'd like to be part of this vital group, contact Judy Morgan of the Alumni Association; 814-865-5742.
